Jan de Vries died at the age of thirty in 1996 in Ghent, Belgium. Having been chiefly active as a sculptor, he focused on photography in the two last years of his life. Resulting from this is a book, gradually conceived as he combined images, taken mostly from his private surroundings and reshaped in the pseudo-narrative entire of the book. The book has, in spite of its references to a snap-shot photo-album, a penetratingly mystified, enigmatic tone It sets out a profound inquiry with regard to the parallelism, or gap, between a chronology of mental processes and the creation of an work of art.
